<p>I left off with my last blog just 2 weeks out from Chicago. That final big workout I did went really well, but it left my hamstring/glute in not the best shape. The hamstring felt tight the morning before, and then during the workout. It wasn’t all that bad, but with a marathon just 2 weeks away I did want to take care of it. I talked to Wes and AJ Gregg about it on Monday, they gave me some exercises to help it, along with suggesting heating it before running to keep it loose and hopefully prevent it from tightening up while I ran.</p>

The last 2 weeks before the race we will begin to taper with a cutback on weekly volume and length of workouts. For this week my focus was on keeping my energy levels as high as I could, and getting one more really tough workout in on Sunday.</p>
<p>The week began with a single 12 mile run Monday morning, followed by our newly implemented Monday strength session at HYPO2 at 10am.</p>

It started off on Monday and Tuesday being pretty normal 10 + 4 mile double days. I was definitely still feeling pretty tired on both days from my big 26 mile long run the past Sunday. Coach Ben asked if I felt recovered at drills and strides Tuesday afternoon, and I simply said “we’ll find out for sure tomorrow morning” my way of saying not really, but being optimistic by the next morning that would change.</p>

<p>On the week leading up to the race, I started with doubles of 10 + 6 miles on Monday, and 10 + 4 miles on Tuesday. I was still feeling pretty tired from our last big workout the previous Saturday, but was a little relieved to know I wasn’t the only one feeling that way, as the Scotts said they also felt very tired from that workout.</p>

I reached my highest weekly volume of the segment so far, and had a couple of really good workouts. These workouts will certainly help me for Chicago, and will help me in my next race which will be the US 20k Championships on Labor Day. The week began with a 10 + 4 mile easy day on Monday, along with meeting for drills, strides and plyos to sharpen up for Tuesday’s big workout.</p>
